Passion

I work to advance sustainable transportation and energy infrastructure by applying my modeling, simulation, and algorithms development experience to innovative, challenging, and collaborative engineering projects. I leverage emerging technologies to develop robust control systems, state estimation and sensor fusion algorithms, and safety monitoring and management systems. I build powerful software tools for modeling and simulation, optimization and analysis, data processing and visualization, and much more. I enjoy learning new things and being inspired by others.

Experience

Battery Systems Modeling Engineer
Burlingame, CA

March 2025 - Present

I am building scalable battery systems modeling and simulation infrastructure, accelerating decision-making and validation of early architectures for grid-scale energy storage systems. I develop and test battery management algorithms, including pack-level state estimation, cell balancing, and health monitoring functions. I collaborate across engineering teams to define cell parameter identification experiments, define system-level functions and performance requirements, and source critical electrical components.

Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer
Manassas, VA

June 2021 - February 2025

I led the preliminary design of the control laws for the X-65 active flow control flight demonstrator vehicle. I am currently developing, testing, and verifying the X-65 guidance and control algorithms, leveraging my powerful modeling and simulation infrastructure evolved over these years. I build generic software tools that simplify and scale control law design and analysis processes, and I prioritize efficient access to meaningful engineering data.

Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer
Everett, WA

July 2019 - June 2021

I was responsible for maturing the readiness level of various autonomous flight technologies, focusing on developing reliable safety monitoring and contingency management systems. I was heavily involved with the design and analysis of robust, high performing guidance and inner loop control algorithms. I built a dynamic flight displays application, out-the-window visualization system, and integrated my software with real flight controls hardware for realistic piloted flight simulation.

Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer
St. Louis, MO

November 2017 - June 2019

In this role I was primarily responsible for developing an efficient stability and performance analysis tool-chain and process. The technical computing solutions that I identified allowed for significant time savings in simulation and data processing. I was also leading software verification efforts prior to customer release of F/A-18 flight control computer operational flight program.

Electrical Design and Analysis Engineer
St. Louis, MO

July 2016 - November 2017

This role provided significant exposure to aircraft mission management systems and avionics integration. My primary responsibility was to support the F/A-18 Electrical System Integration Laboratory with test bench design, assembly, integration, test, and maintenance to support avionics testing.

Priorities

Safety and Quality

Safety is first and foremost my top priority. I am committed to develop safe, reliable engineering solutions that do not sacrifice the safety of myself, my teammates, and my customers.

Team Collaboration

I have learned that a well-functioning team dedicated to a shared common goal is crucial to successful project execution. I prioritize efficient team-collaboration and promote agile workflows to maximize team performance.

Effective Communication

The most innovative and exciting idea is worthless until communicated to the right people. Therefore I am constantly studying effective communication strategies demonstrated by industry leaders to improve both verbal and written communication skills.

Creative Problem Solving

My job is to solve problems. Luckily I get daily practice applying creative, critical thinking to identify sustainable solutions to various challenges in the product development cycle.

Sustainability

Transportation infrastructure lags in the transition to clean energy resources and we, as a civilization, must adopt sustainable manufacturing, operations, and recycling processes and energy storage solutions to protect what is left of our planet.
